A strange word. It sounds as though it could be something sweet and sticky (like misspelt nougat, or some nutty but likeable confectionery). In fact, it is rather dull and negative – not allowing us to believe fairy stories, because the evidence for them is so nugatory, and certainly not nice to eat.
