This is Still the West
by Dennis Fisher

It was at the Cheyenne rodeo
we had taken our last ride...
Somehow the talk had come around
to how the west had »Died«
It was pretty much agreed by all
...the good old days were dead
when solemnly an old cowboy
pushed back his hat and said...

"Now folks are always talkin
about the good old days.
We all miss the things we've lost
somewhere along the way.
It's true there's not as many
of us riding on the range...
But boys I'm here to tell you now
not everything has changed.

A cowboy's still a cowboy
ridin for his pay...
His pony's still his partner
just like the good old days.
Springtime in the rockies
is still the very best...
The stars still shine on old Cheyenne
and this is still the west."

Now many years have come and gone
since that day up in Cheyenne
I never seen them boys again
including that old man
But I ain't forgot that old cowboy
and what he had to say
about the Cowboy, and about the West
and about the good old days

And sometimes from my porch
beneath a brilliant starlit sky
I think I see that old cowboy
and his horse go trailin by
And as they slowly fade away
into a black and silver sea
His voice comes driftin softly back
along the evening breeze

"A cowboy's still a Cowboy
ridin for his pay...
His pony's still his partner
just like the good old days.
Springtime in the Rockies
is still the very best...
The stars still shine on old Cheyenne
and this is still the west."
