y-chromosome

It is possible that the y-chromosome is actually a mutation that resulted from some ancient environmental catastrophe. Parthenogenioc reproduction was once the norm and males did not exist. Many species survive without males at all. There are no all-male species as males are incapable of reproduction without the female. Females don't need males.

The y-chromosome is a mutated X-chromosome and males are mutant females.
