Materialism comes, to my find in three varieties.
Cultural Materialism, Historical Materialism and Vulgar Materialism. The first two are analytic modes, while the latter is the common usage of the term. They are listed in order of personal preference.

When I hear the word materialism I always think of idealism at once! It's balance of the perception...

I really don't know much about materialism, but I do know that I like having lots of stuff.

The subject of materialism is what began my journey here. I searched non-linear thinking on a search engine and discovered this Web site. Last night I finished reading »The Undiscovered Mind« by Horgan. Although the text illuminated many ideas, I'm still perplexed about the explanatory gap. Although I'm not a dualist, I'm not an eliminative materialist, either. What is missing and how do we find the connection? Perhaps some right brain, non-linear thinking will close the gap.
