My daughter is an only child, I was present at her birth, she is the light of my life, to see her grow to see her personailty growing and maturing is better than a beautiful sunset or looking at the bright stars in a clear night sky.
I have no children. I never married.
But in my later years, my great-niece has been like a daughter to me.
I am my parents' only daughter.
I have three older brothers, though.
Daughter, water flowing, laughter, the joyous song of life unfolding. The continuation of being in essence, the potential for a future being, Through her I am born again into future being.
It takes quite a lot to move me to anger (as a typical woman). But I was enraged on behalf of all daughters in patriarchal societies when I discovered that the Jewish 'order of service' can actually contain a prayer in which the men thank God for not having been created female...Absolute shame on them!
One day I hope to have several daughters, and to love and care for them the way I wish I had been.
